Customized Group Visits
UW–Madison offers an incredible array of fun and educational field trip options for students, and for campus and community members. Whether your group is interested in science, the arts, history or any other subject, let us help you plan your next visit to campus!
As the birthplace of the Wisconsin Idea, UW–Madison believes that the boundaries of the university are the boundaries of the state, and that all Wisconsinites should benefit from the campus. Introduce your group to the knowledge, resources and people that are part of Wisconsin’s heritage.
Visit options
Science and Nature: From earth to space and from laboratory to the great outdoors, explore science through hands-on experiences. Some sites include the Geology Museum, Space Place, Arboretum, Physics Museum, Allen Centennial Gardens and the Biotech Center.
History: Tour the Bascom Hill Historic District and visit the Native American effigy mounds, which integrate Wisconsin and university history; or see the Armory and Gymnasium, a National Historic Landmark.
Arts: Visit the world-class Chazen Museum of Art or listen to a concert from the Memorial Carillon. Inquire about the many other unique galleries and art exhibits on campus.
Campus tours: Our knowledgeable, enthusiastic tour guides can customize a tour to fit your interests and age levels. Guided walking tours, as well as “step-on” guides for bus or van tours, are available.
Group size
The size of your group often determines your destination options. Our group tour coordinator will help you plan and make the most of your visit.
Notes
- While campus tours are free to most groups, some research areas require a small fee to cover the cost of supplies. Based upon your interests, we will tell you about any costs.
- Many food options — including delicious Babcock ice cream — are offered on campus. If your group prefers to bring its own food, you can relax and eat at the Memorial Union Terrace, Union South, Library Mall or numerous other locations. We can provide details on food options and locations when we schedule your visit.
- Please schedule several weeks in advance and realize that campus or destination access may be limited during particular times of year due to our academic calendar.
- Plan enough time for traveling to campus; being punctual will ensure that your group has enough time to enjoy its visit.
- If your group has members under the age of 18, please provide sufficient adult chaperones; our student tour guides cannot act as chaperones. We encourage one adult per 8-10 students.
