Experience the University of Wisconsin–Madison through a guided walking tour. These 100-minute tours of campus are led by experienced tour guides and highlight campus life, academics and the history of the university. Tours may be adapted to various ages, interests and time constraints.
Like walking tours, our guides can board your bus for a 45- to 60-minute tour that showcases the entire campus. This tour may be adapted to various ages, interests and time constraints. Stops at various destinations can be arranged at the time of planning.
Dedicated in 1894 by university president Charles Adams as a structure “built to endure for all time,” the Red Gym was both a training facility for citizen militia and a student center for recreation, sports, and social and cultural events. Now a National Historic Landmark, the carefully restored and historically preserved Red Gym serves a new, adaptive role as home to various student services. Tours last 30 minutes.
Within UW–Madison’s 933 acres sits the Bascom Hill Historic District. Explore the area on your own and discover the 12 bronze plaques that describe UW–Madison’s rich history. Guided tours of the district are available by appointment and may include the Red Gym and effigy mounds found on Observatory Hill.
From earth to space and from laboratory to the great outdoors, explore science through hands-on experiences. Some sites include the Geology Museum, Space Place, Arboretum, Physics Museum, Allen Centennial Gardens and the Biotech Center.
